Mary Ann Satter
Film EducatorMary Ann Satter earned both her BA and MA from the University of Rochester. She has dedicated four decades to teaching English and Film at the high school level and has also served as an adjunct faculty member at Nazareth University, Rochester Institute of Technology, and the OSHER Institute at RIT.
With four generations of film enthusiasts in her family, Mary Ann stands out as the most passionate. Her love for films began at the age of 11 when she watched Mervyn LeRoy’s 1932 film, I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang, on television and first recognized the power of cinema. She has since read, researched, and written extensively about films. Remarkably, she has watched Citizen Kane at least 100 times and still finds it captivating.
Bryan Moulton
Student and film enthusiastAs a student at the OSHER Institute at RIT, Bryan Moulton was fascinated by the breadth and depth of Mary Ann’s cinematic knowledge. Her classes are both captivating and informative. Inspired by her extensive study guides, Bryan helped to create the Satter-Guides resource so that others could gain a similar appreciation for the film that Mary brings to her in-person classes.
“It felt like a natural step for me to leverage my skills and resources in building this website. I truly hope that others will find Mary Ann’s insightful guides as enjoyable and valuable as I do.”
